Why High-Quality Decorating Matters: Investing in high-quality decorating as opposed to a DIY job can transform any space, turning it from ordinary to extraordinary. Here are a few reasons why it’s worth prioritising:

  1. Aesthetics: Quality decorating enhances the visual appeal of a space, creating a welcoming and attractive environment for residents, customers, or employees.
  2. Durability: High-quality materials such as those from our trade suppliers applied correctly can last for many years. Many of our products are available in more durable or washable finishes allowing for extended life cycles which is perfect for hallways, kitchens or even throughout a rental property!
  3. Value: Well-executed decorating can increase the value of your property, making it more appealing to potential buyers or tenants who value a clean, fresh finish.
  4. Mental health: The right colours, textures, and design elements can positively impact mood and productivity, whether at home or in a commercial setting. Taking pride in a nice finish is a part of what we do!

Now, let’s take a look at some of the top brands in the industry that we use:

  1. Johnstones Trade: Trade Paint & Paint Colours – JohnstonesTrade.Com

Trusted by decorators across the country, they have a good network of physical shops in major areas. Their products are high quality and well warrantied. They offer perfect colour matches and are our default for interior emulsions and water based glosses.

Another massive name, the trade variant (crucial) of the famous dog brand. Very good quality overall, a bit more expensive than the johnstones and not as widely stocked. Excellent exterior woodwork products

Actually a UK brand, though with a name like that I thought they were German! We use them for primers, stain blockers and anti mould products. Very high quality and excellent all round. Having used their water based exterior paints several times, they are highly recommended. Expensive but worth it.

There are also a lot of newer less established brands, such as Tikurilla, Lick and Optiva alongside the premium options in colours such as Farrow and Ball and Little Greene. All very good, but often not suitable for certain properties.

One consideration we factor in a lot, with our wider damp and defect works is whether a property should be ‘breathable’ or have more natural materials. In this case, it is often more appropriate for lime or clay based paints – which are enjoying a renaissance for their eco credentials and their ability to let moisture pass through – preventing the build up of damp and being highly suitable for period properties. Generally we’d use Earthborne or Ty Mawr for these, but there are exciting new products hitting the market regularly.
